While I think there are many benefits of using Twitter, many of my students don’t use it. Nonetheless, I think they can still find important information without having to sign up for the platform. This post takes you through 3 ways to find internships on Twitter without an account.
Quick Tips When Getting Started
Here are a few quick tips to get you started:
- When navigating to Twitter go to https://twitter.com/explore
- If you go to https://twitter.com/ then you will have to log in
- Use a computer. The first two methods below work across device types, but not the third one.
- Keep adjusting settings and trying different things out
3 Ways To Find Internships on Twitter Without an Account
1. Start with the Search Bar
You can use Twitter’s Search Bar and see the results without having an account. Type in the keywords for the internship you are looking for and see what pops up.
You won’t always get a list of internships opportunities right off the bat. However, with some scrolling, changing tabs, clicking, and adjusting keywords, you will be on your way to locating some potential internship opportunities.

2. Explore Hashtags
In addition to searching keywords, you can explore hashtags by directly typing them into the search bar. Again, you can see and check out the results without having a Twitter account.
If you aren’t sure where to start, try the following hashtags out:
Your discipline, targeted organizations, or university might have custom hashtags to help move along your internship search. This will take a bit more research to uncover.
3. Focus Findings Using Advanced Search
You can use the ‘Advanced Search’ feature to help focus your search – without an account.
To access the ‘Advanced Search’ feature, you have to first search something (it doesn’t matter what) and then click the 3 dots on the upper right corner of the results. Once you click, the ‘Advanced Search’ window will pop up.
Here are two examples of how to focus your search:
Example 1: Search Specific Companies
Let’s say you have a list of companies you would love to intern with. You can use the ‘Advanced Search’ window to identify specific companies by focusing your search using the keyword and accounts sections.
Under the ‘Links’ section, selecting ‘Only show Tweets with links‘ might help increase the likelihood of a direct link to an application or more information.

Example 2: Search Recent Listings
Let’s say you’re trying to find an internship ASAP. Or in the case of COVID-19, you want to see who is still offering internships. The ‘Dates’ section can help you make sure your search is relevant based on the most recently available information.

Closing Thoughts
Many of my students are hesitant to join Twitter – even for lurking purposes.
While I think Twitter can be a powerful platform for professionalization, many of my students just aren’t there yet.
And that’s okay.
You can still reap some of the benefits of Twitter without having an account (though there are perks of having an account).
Twitter is not an out-of-the-box solution for instantly finding internships; however, it can be a powerful tool in your search process.
